Blogging today because I realized that I haven't updated in a while, and my cousin demands to know about my life as a fashion student. For 3 terms I have been going through foundation but now I have finally started on my fashion specialism. Just a brief explanation of how my college works, we have 3 terms of foundation in year 1, 3 terms of specialism which extends into year 2, and the rest of the 1 and a half years dedicated to our major. In Diploma in Fashion at Lasalle College of the Arts, we have 3 majors although your cert will only state 'Diploma in Fashion'. They are Fashion Design and Textile, Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Communication. I will be majoring in Fashion Communication which focuses on the editorial side of fashion, so please don't expect a fashion collection from me because I won't be sewing garments in my major lol ^^;
This term, as an intro to Diploma in Fashion, we have an upcycling project which utilizes second hand clothing to recreate new ones. Everything has to be done by hand, sort of like couture but not as elaborated, but you get the idea. I'm learning so much more things right now about fashion art, like fashion techniques, design development and fashion drawing. Most are still in the beginning stages, but I'll just show you some of my fashion drawings for now :D
Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne looks from Chanel Fall 2015 Ready-to-wear collection.
Iris Van Herpen and Acne's Spring 2015 Ready-to-wear collection, Dries Van Noten's Fall 2015 Ready-to-wear collection.
I have never attempted fashion drawing before because I've always been drawing manga style or realistic drawing so this was a first for me. To draw figures with elongated proportions was pretty fun actually, and I didn't think that I can do it before I had my first class. For now we're only doing sketches but I look forward to adding tones and colours to them. :)
